Former Ireland international Jason McAteer has said Giovanni Trapattoni needs to allow his players more freedom, and needs to get Darron Gibson back into the international set up. He also feels Brendan Rodgers needs time to embed his philosophy at Liverpool.
McAteer spoke with Newstalk’s Oisin Langan about Trap, Mick McCarthy, Roy Keane and Liverpool.
The former Liverpool winger is also sure that Mick McCarthy is well equipped to do well in whatever mangerial position he finds himself next. He feeels McCarthy’s managerial pedigree is “absolutely fantastic”, but added that Roy Keane’s is “OK”.
Asked about his time as manager as Tranmere, McAteer admits it was a difficult job, with far more scrutiny and pressure than is usually associated with a League One managers job, but would now be happy to return to the dugout.
