Graeme McDowell fought off a late comeback from Bo Van Pelt at the World Matchplay Championship, at Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort, to advance to the quarter final, where he will face Nicolas Colsaerts in a rematch of last year's final.
McDowell was four up with six to play, however birdies on the 13th, 15th and 16th holes saw Van Pelt peg him back to just one down on the 18th tee. The American had a putt to take the final hole, but narrowly missed, allowing McDowell to halve the hole with a par.
McDowell had a six foot putt on the 17th to win the match, but missed his opportunity.
Shane Lowry lost his match against South African Thomas Aiken, with a playoff hole needed to separate the two.
