Rory McIlroy has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
After winning his fifth title of the year at the World Tour Championship in Dubai on Sunday, Rory McIIroy is in contention for another big prize after being named on the 12-person short-list for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The two-time major winner has opened-up a big lead at the top of the world rankings after a spectacular 2012, which saw him win the US PGA Championship.
The short-list is dominated by successful Olympians, such as the out-right favourite Bradley Wiggins, who became the first Briton to win the Tour de France and followed up with Olympic time trial gold.
Nicola Adams, Ben Ainslie, Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah, Katherine Grainger and Chris Hoy were the other Olympians to make the cut.
They're joined by Paralympic stars David Weir, Sarah Storey and Ellie Simmonds.
Andy Murray has also been nominated after winning the US Open title
