Rekindling, the horse that made Joseph O'Brien the youngest Melbourne Cup-winning trainer in history has been retired.
Part-owner Lloyd Williams confirmed the Rekindling news on Wednesday to Australian site Racing.com.au indicating the son of High Chaparral would stand next year in Europe.
The son of High Chaparral only made 11 racecourse stars in his career, running in a Derby at Epsom and winning a Curragh Cup as well as his historic Flemington success. That win was also a record for owner Llyod Williams securing an incredible sixth win for him in the race as an owner.
Relive Rekindling's Melbourne Cup success.
The win at Flemington was a career-defining moment for O'Brien who had already tasted flat top-level success with Intricately in the Moyglare at the Curragh in September 2016.
The Owning based trainer has had further success in the Lloyd Willaims colours since Rekindling's Melbourne Cup win. Latrobe carried the famous navy and white colours to Classic victory in the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.
