Michael Cheika has signed a new deal with Australia that will see him continue as the team's head coach until the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The former Leinster coach only took charge of the team in Octotber 2014 and led Australia the World Cup final just over a year later. Cheika has signed a two-year contract extension, 18 months before his current contract was due to end.

"I never imagined I would be in the position of coaching Australia and feel extremely honoured to have the opportunity to continue on for the next period though to the end of the 2019 World Cup in Japan", Cheika revealed.

The 49-year-old leads Australia into a home three-test series against England next month. The teams will meet in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney with the first test taking place on June 11th.

"It is a privilege to be associated with the people involved with our national team and playing my part in establishing the Wallabies identity for the years to come and for many years after that."

Australia will return to Ireland in November in the final match of Dublin's November Series. The teams will be in the Aviva Stadium on November 26th.
