Former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy believes that Martin O'Neill is a "shoe in" to succeed Giovanni Trapattoni.
The Ipswich Town boss is one of the other contenders for the job, but he admitted he would not know what his reaction would be if he was approached by the FAI.
He said: "Martin O’Neill is getting the job as far as I’m aware. That’s totally nailed on, he’s a shoe in for it."
