AC Milan have admitted that an administrative blunder has cost them one of their leading players for the Champions League group stages.
The Serie A giants finalized their 25-man squad for the competition but made the error of including Stephan El Shaarawy as an A-List player which means young forward M'Baye Babacar Niang cannot be included in the squad for any of Milan's games in the group stages.
Uefa rules allows players born after January 1, 1992 with at least two years of experience at the club between the ages of 15 and 21 to be included in the B List. El Shaarawy would have been eligible for inclusion in the B-List, opening up space for Niang.
In a statement, AC Milan said: "Umberto Gandini, director of the AC Milan organisation, assumes the responsibility for the error in the compilation of the Champions League lists"
