Colin Montgomerie believes European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley was right to leave Luke Donald out of his team for this year's event.
Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Stephen Gallagher were the wild card picks for Gleneagles with the former World No 1 left out.
"It's unfortunate for Luke Donald but someone had to miss out," he said.
Montgomerie, who guided Europe to success in 2010, told Sky Sports News he expects great things from fellow Scot Gallagher in particular.
"It's great for Scottish golf and British golf and I'm delighted that he's there. His record round Gleneagles is second to none. He's won therem and I expect him to be one of our top point scorers."
