The new show marks the publication of the final volume of his diaries, which span over the past three decades.
’Thirty Years’ will draw upon rarely told stories from Michael Palin’s career on television, as a family man, and his experience of life in England as the country hurdled into the 21st century.
The legendary travel writer and Monty Python member joined Pat Kenny on the air back in December, and they discussed how quitting smoking led to the birth of his passion for keeping diaries;
"When our first son was born, he wanted to grab his dad and be picked up for a cuddle but I had to get the cigarette out of my mouth and into the ashtray and then he'd try to eat this ashtray. So I thought it best to give up. I gave up sort of cold turkey and just had this surge of willpower.
"I thought about what else I wanted to do with my life that I never had the willpower to do and one of those things was keep a diary. And so I've kept a diary fairly regularly ever since."
In other Monty Python related news, Stephen Hawking has just released a cover of ‘Galaxy Song’ from the 1983 classic ‘Monty Python’s the meaning of life’, and it’s just perfect.
Already this year, Hawking appeared alongside David Walliams for a Little Britain sketch on Comic Relief.
Tickets for ’Thirty Years’ go on sale this Friday 17 April at 9am from Ticketmaster ( €36.50 / €38.50)
