Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed that Manchester United made a bid for Gareth Bale before he arrived at Real Madrid.

Perez also said that the club did not pay over the odds for Bale despite the Welshman costing a world-record fee of over €90 million.

However Manchester United manager David Moyes refused to comment on the claims in today's press conference.

He said: "We only talk about the players we think there is a reason to talk about and I wouldn't comment on that."
