Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock says this will be his last season as a manager saying he believes it would be "appropriate" as he is leaving the club in "a great state".
The Englishman has had a career in management spanning 40 years, which included spells at 15 different clubs. After winning promotion to the Premier League with Cardiff City in 2018, he became the first boss to win eight promotions in the professional leagues in England.
Speaking to the BBC, Warnock was asked if getting the Blues back to the Premier League is the aim this year in the Championship, "well, it would be a lovely way to finish. It wouldn't get any better than that. I'm also a realist and I know how difficult it is going to be.
First and foremost, we need to make sure we are there or thereabouts. I think the last time we were there we said 'if we could be up near the play-offs at Christmas then we would be quite happy'. I think we usually finish quite strong, that's what we have to do.
What haven't got to get carried away, we aren't going to walk the league. We've got a decent squad and we need to make sure to hang on to the leaders."
The 70-year old manager said he will be leaving Cardiff City in a good position. "One or two of my best friends have struggled healthwise this year," Warnock said. "Sharon and I want to be able and see one or two things, while we've got our health. The club is in a great state now. I think Vincent's in a good place with Ken and Mehmet. I think it would be appropriate. Likewise, they've got time to look at candidates et cetera, and see who they would come up with.
"If I can help them in any way then great. If things didn't go right in the season and I think that would be the time as well. I think we just have to have a sensible cap on. I think it is sensible I take the team into the season. It is the biggest appointment of a club - the manager."
Cardiff City's Championship season begins with an away trip to Wigan Athletic on August 3rd.
