New York Giants Defensive End Jason Pierre-Paul has had his index finger amputated on his right hand. The 26 year old injured his hand in a fireworks accident on July 4th during Independence Day celebrations. 

The SuperBowl winner was out of contract at the Giants but was given the Franchise tag by the team meaning he was expected to stay in New York for another season. The two time Pro Bowl player recorded 12.5 sacks last season.

According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Pierre-Paul asked for the amputation and is expected to feature for the Giants in the early rounds of the forthcoming season.
