Irish Independent journalist Dan McDonnell thinks Troy Parrott’s loan move to Millwall will mature the Irish striker and build his character.
Speaking on the Off The Ball Football Show, McDonnell believes that Parrott has a brilliant opportunity to build as a player in a top Championship club like Millwall.
He also said, that playing weekly matches will give Tottenham the chance to see him develop over his yearlong loan.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for him, It’s London and it’s not uprooting him. Spurs rate him highly and I’d say they want to have a degree of control around his movement by keeping him nearby.
“I think at Millwall it can be character building and if the fans come back it will be even more character building for him.
“I think this move ticks every box for him as an option. He’s not going to be trusted by Jose until he gets that season of games. He’s going in at championship level. Not every player on loan gets to go to a good championship club.
Millwall were pushing for the play-offs this year and nearly got across the line, but we’ll find out a lot about Troy Parrott this season and we’re looking forward to finding that out.”
McDonnell feels that Spurs want to keep Parrott on the right track and in his regular lifestyle by sending him to a nearby club in London.
“There seems to be a sense that Spurs want to mind Parrott for whatever reason. Maybe they feel he needs to mature a bit. Clearly there is a degree of trust there sending him to Millwall. Maybe there are connections and people there.
“I feel Spurs believe this is the right fit. There was clearly thought behind it and if you talk to people, everyone says the ability is there but clearly you need a lot to go right for you and hopefully this is the right step.”
