Former Olympic Council of Ireland chief Pat Hickey is to be invited to give evidence before the Oireachtas next week.

The Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport is meeting to discuss the upcoming report into alleged ticket touting at the Rio Olympics.

The committee will be examining policies, procedures, processes and practices adopted by the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) regarding tickets for the games.

The report is due to be published on Monday, however certain sections have already been leaked - including excerpts suggesting Mr Hickey will be cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.

While the document is likely to be highly critical of the 72-year-old for his leadership of the OCI – it reportedly falls short of identifying any money trail linking him with ticket touting.

Undermined

This afternoon, the Sports Minister Shane Ross insisted the investigation undertaken by Justice Carroll Moran has not been undermined – despite a number of people refusing to cooperate.

"I don't think the report is undermined by anything - the report is the report, and I think people should make their own judgements when they get it,” he said.

"And I hope they'll get it next week."

In an exclusive interview with Newstalk in June, Mr Hickey insisted he will be proven innocent of all charges and described how he was "absolutely humiliated" following his arrest in Brazil.

Rio arrest

The former OCI president spent two weeks in a Brazilian maximum security prison before being put under house arrest.

He returned to Ireland last December.

The current OCI president Sarah Keane, OCI chief executive John Treacy and Sport Ireland chair Kieran Mulvey will all be invited in front of the committee.

Minister Ross will also be in attendance.
