Speaking on Newstalk’s Off The Ball show tonight, Jamie Fuller, CEO of Skins and head of Change Cycling Now revealed to Ger Gilroy that the Swiss cycling federation have pulled their support for the current president ahead of next month's elections.

"Finally, the Swiss cycling have seen the light and pulled the plug on his nomination. Naively, I actually expected this to happen back in June. I thought that once Swiss cycling was confronted with a party who indicated clearly that they were going to chase this through to the end, I thought that Swiss cycling might sit down then and have a little think and do something about it then but they chose not to.”

Fuller had helped to organise the appeals in Switzerland to McQuaid's bid for a Swiss nomination. With the bid withdrawn, it is unclear how McQuaid will be able seek re-election in September's UCI presidential election.

In June, an EGM of Cycling Ireland members ecided against nominating McQuaid for another term as a UCI president.

When asked if he believes that McQuaid will continue to seek re-election as UCI president after this latest setback, Fuller said:

“He is going to try and brazen it out, which frankly is staggering after everything that has happened and what he has gone through but he should not be there and I cannot see him pulling much in the way of votes.”
