St. Patrick’s Athletic are just one step away from the Airtricity league title following a 3 - 1 win over UCD. One more win will be enough to see Liam Buckley’s side take the title back to Inchicore for the first time since 1999.

It wasn’t a straight run through for the saints at Belfield, however, and the Students were 1 – 0 up after 23 minutes. St. Pat’s fans weren’t given long to get themselves into a spiral of nerves, however, and within ten minutes they were in front thanks to a quick double from Chris Forrester and Anthony Flood. Jake Kelly added another with a fine strike from outside the box in the second half to ease nerves on the way to the three points.

Shelbourne remain joint bottom of the table with Bray but have now lost their game in hand following a 3-1 defeat at the Brandywell. Rory Patterson converted an early penalty before Pat Rafter added another two goals to leave Shels staring into the abyss. The misery for Johnny McDonnell's side was compounded as Brian Gannon and Robert Bayly were sent off for Shelbourne towards the end of the game.
