Paul Kimmage has spent 22 years on a mission to rid cycling of the cheats who have brought the sport to its knees. Through his journalism work he has fought relentlessly and with a seemingly unstoppable tenacity to expose the men who have corrupted the sport he has loved since his time as a young boy living in Dublin. Kimmage has carried on the battle at a great personal and professional cost, with legal battles and job losses just some of the tangible setbacks that filled those 22 years.
Despite the huge levels of praise heaped onto Kimmage, and his friend and colleague David Walsh, for the work that eventually brought down Lance Armstrong, from the wider public the reality remains that Kimmage is despised and excluded by many in cycling. It appears not all have been happy to see him so exonerated in the wake of the Lance Armstrong doping scandal.
Wildfire Films are in the process of making a documentary following Kimmage through the 2013 Tour de France, the Tour’s centenary year. For twenty one days the film crew will follow Kimmage and experience the Tour – the first in the post ‘Reasoned Decision’ era – along with him.
The film crew have already been working with Kimmage and have released an extended trailer that lets us know what we can expect from a film that promises to be one of the most interesting for many years.
