Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino says that he intends to stay at St Mary's despite the departure of the club's chairman.

Italian Nicola Cortese resigned from the club yesterday, which had cast doubt on the future of Pochettino.

The Argentine manager had previously stated that he would leave if Cortese were to depart the club.

But after talks with owner Katharina Liebherr, the Argentine says he believes he has a professional responsibility to everyone at the club and the fans to continue in the job.

He said: "Eight months ago when we were speaking about things I said there would be no sense for me to stay but it is completely different now. It is a different situation now. Nicola knows about my decision to stay."
