The president of the Dutch Football Association Just Spee has expressed his concern about the likelihood of the Premier League season being completed.

On Friday the KNVB took the decision to void their season after the government in the Netherlands banned football taking place before September 1st which led to the KNVB bringing the curtain down ahead of time.

A meeting of the KNVB and clubs to decide the outcome of the season also ruled out promotion and relegation.

In the current Premier League season there are still 92 games left to be played but it will be a race against time to avoid affecting the season due to start in August.

Just Spee has expressed his doubts about there being enough time to complete the season to the Guardian. The British government suggested it might be possible for some sports to resume within a few weeks.

The KNVB president said: “The UK will hold on to a sliver of hope as long as it is there, but in reality the chances of completing the Premier League season are slim.

"The English season will need a number of weeks to complete and I doubt there will be enough time. Seeing what is happening with things getting postponed week by week it is probably not realistic.”

Liverpool currently lead the Premier League by 25 points with nine games left to play, looking set to win a first top-flight title in 30 years.

While the Dutch league had no champions, relegation, or promotion the UEFA 'sporting merit' decree from their meeting last week, it should mean Liverpool are crowned champions.

Talks are expected to continue into next week about a possible return to Premier League action in June. Matches are likely to be held behind closed doors, but will only be allowed to take place when it's safe to do so.
