Arsenal 1-3 Aston Villa
Aston Villa are off to a flying start with a 3-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates opening their account for the new Premier League season.
Two goals from Christian Benteke and one from new singing Antonio Luna were enough to overturn Olivier Giroud’s sixth minute strike. Laurent Koscielny was shown a red card for a second bookable offence.
Villa were awarded two penalties, with Benteke missing the first but converting the rebound, and slotting the second home at the first attempt.
Norwich City 2-2 Everton
Seamus Coleman got on the score sheet in a 2-2 all draw between Everton and Norwich City, at Carrow Road this afternoon.
The home side took the lead early on with a Steven Whittaker goal on 51 minutes. Everton were on top midway through the second half, however. Coleman scored Everton’s second – to add to Ross Barkley’s first, just 4 minutes earlier – but Norwich were to hit back and draw level with a goal from Ricky van Wolfswinke in the 71st minute.
West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Southampton
Rickie Lambert capped a great week - in which he scored his first international goal, on his debut, in a 3-2 win over Scotland, while also becoming a father to a baby girl this week - with the winning goal in today’s opening league fixture for Southampton. Lambert scored a stoppage time penalty to secure a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
West Ham 2-0 Cardiff City
Joe Cole and Kevin Nolan were the scorers for West Ham as the Hammers welcomed Cardiff to the Premier League with a 2-0 defeat at Upton Park.
Sunderland 0-1 Fulham
Paulo Di Canio first season opening game as Sunderland boss was spoiled by Pajtim Kasami, who cored he only goal the game to give Fulham 3 points from their visit to the Stadium of Light.
