There will be no GAA pre-season, provincial hurling round-robin games, or football Super 8's in 2021 if a shortened season is approved by Central Council.

The Irish Independent report that inter-county GAA action will return next year with League matches in February.

The hurling and football championships are slated for between April and July, with April no longer set aside for club activity. Instead, it's planned that the season would finish by the third week of July, when space would then be provided in the calendar for an interrupted run of club matches.

The calendar is also being truncated with cognisance of the public health environment.

It's intended that qualifiers will remain in hurling and football, with a secondary Tailteann Cup tournament still planned for football.

There will only be a two-week break between the national leagues and the championship, with the football league to have a regional construction per division, with each division split into two.  The hurling league structure is set to remain unchanged.

Central Council will this weekend examine the plan, which has been drafted by the Central Competitions Control Committee.
