Richard Dunne has yet to play for Ireland during the Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane era but he still hopes to keep pulling on the green shirt.

Dunne joined Off The Ball at Dublin's Sugar Club tonight and will keep an 'open' sign at the shop window when O'Neill and Keane pass by.

"It's a long time before September comes around. I'm sure over the next few months, I'll have a chat with the manager. But from my point of view, I'll be available if I'm picked. But if I'm not, I'll understand that the game moves on and players move on as well," said the 35-year-old QPR defender.

Dunne has become a stalwart for club and country over the years but he admitted that he made his fair share of mistakes early on in his career at Manchester City.

"There were a few things that went on which were part of growing up. I made mistakes and I had extra training as punishment. But there were no weight jackets," said Dunne, alluding to a myth that his former manager Kevin Keegan forced him to wear one as punishment.

"There was a group of us and we were young and doing certain things that we shouldn't have done. It didn't seem that long ago but football has changed."

Dunne also reminisced about his epic performance in Moscow three years ago, how he went from Home Farm to Everton, Thierry Henry's handballgate in Paris and the experiences at World Cup 2002 and Euro 2012.
