Ireland captain Robbie Keane and former team mate Damien Duff have returned to the college during their off season as students in IT Carlow.

The two legends, who can count 243 Irish caps between them, joined the student body to complete their FAI and UEFA Coaching Diplomas that will eventually see the duo became professional coach/managers.

Keane and Duff joined IT Carlow’s BA Sport & Exercise (Soccer) students yesterday for an intense day of coach education.  Keane is completing his UEFA A Diploma on his off season from MLS, while the Shamrock Rovers star Duff is undertaking UEFA B course work and assessments.

The LA Galaxy striker has previously studied in Carlow earlier this year when he took park in a UEFA training course. Former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini also took part earlier this year.

Robbie Keane commented, “I’d like to thank the combined team of the FAI, as well as Luke (Hardy, the course co-ordinator) and the rest of the lecturers at IT Carlow for my training. It’s nice to have this professional qualification which I may put to good use when I eventually retire."

Could we see the two stars on the sidelines as coaches or managers sooner than we thought?
