Cristiano Ronaldo gave a demonstration of his incredible speed at the Bernabeu on Saturday night during the Madrid derby. The Real Madrid man sprinted approximately 96 metres in just 10 seconds during a counter attack from Real. His run began in his own six yard box and finished 10 seconds later in the Atleti six yard box, where he met a cross and saw his shot bounce back off the post.
To put that in perspective - it might not be Usain Bolt speeds but it would suggest Cristiano Ronaldo could have realistic aims of breaking the sprinting record of his adopted homeland- the Spanish 100 metres record, which is held by Angel Davis Rodriguez, stands at 10.14. The honour of the Portuguese record may be slightly out of reach, sitting as it does at the lower 9.89 seconds. Held by Francis Obikwelku, it was good enough to win Portugal their first ever sprinting medal at an Olympics games when Obikwelku took the Silver in 2004.
