Manchester United’s goal of signing Cristiano Ronaldo appears more remotes than ever as the Portuguese is set to sign a contract extension at Real Madrid today.

Details of the deal haven’t been disclosed yet, however Marca reports that it will make Ronaldo the highest paid player in Spanish football, earning €17 million per year - €1 million more than Leo Messi. He will also have increased ownership of his image rights.

Ronaldo’s current contract runs out in 2015.
