Ireland legend Ronan O'Gara has warned that the upcoming game against Scotland is a potential banana skin.

Joe Schmidt's charges will be desperate to bounce back after a devastating defeat to England in their first game in the Six Nations.

The former Ireland out-half feels the defeat has been overblown: “The consistency level of this team is incredible and they’ve driven it to whole new standards.

“There’s only been two years too where they’ve won the Grand Slam so they’ve won all the games.

“We’ve seen this scenario before but maybe because its fresh or the manner of the game but it seems like there’s a massive overreaction to this.

ROG is surprised by the Scots confidence

“They’ve got to get their preparation right for the Scotland game because it is a potential banana skin.

“Scotland have new confidence and usually they’re confident and I don’t know why they are because they’ve got nothing to back it up.”

The Scots started with a win. Blair Kinghorn scored a hat-trick as they powered to a 33-20 win over Italy.

Ireland’s last visit to Murrayfield was a losing one. They were beaten in controversial circumstances after a late arrival was blamed for a sluggish start.

The team bus arrived late at the ground after being rerouted by police, it meant the Ireland players had no time to warm-up as they lost the game 27-22 after leaking three first-half tries.
