Wayne Rooney has once again been linked with a move away from Manchester United, as claims from France suggest the forward is on his way to Paris Saint Germain.

Newstalk’s European football correspondent, Graham Hunter, believes the key to any potential move will be Sir Alex Ferguson’s relationship with the striker.

Hunter told Newstalk Breakfast: “It’s an open secret around United’s training ground that Sir Alex Ferguson could be happier with his shape, with his off the pitch decisions. No way is it a breakdown, no way is he outrageously out of shape, but Sir Alex isn’t happy; that will determine everything.”

The specualtion over Rooney's future was reignited when former PSG director Michel Moulin told Le Sport: "I announce to you from trusted sources: Rooney to PSG is done. He will be there next season."

The claim was dismissed by those close to the player, but Hunter insisted the story will not go away; “but not because it sells tabloids, simply because there is an active interest from Paris Saint Germain.”

“They are short of a secondary goal scorer. Around Zlatan Ibrahimovic they have players who give you five, six, seven goals but they don’t want to be in a situation where: a) he leaves, and Juventus are pushing very hard for Zlatan, or, b) he’s playing but gets injured.

“They key thing here is PSG are very interested in Rooney; they look at him as a major name, a man of skill and somebody who may be available.”
