Wayne Rooney will take no part in today’s game between Liverpool and Manchester United, as the United striker has been left out of the match day squad, due to a head injury suffered in training. Rooney did not travel with the United squad to Anfield.
Ahsley Young and Ryan Giggs start for the champions. Antonio Valencia is dropped to the bench, while Shinji Kagawa doesn’t make the substitutes list.
Commenting on Rooney’s absence, United captain Rio Ferdinand : "It's disappointing obviously but whatever has happened has happened and we can't go back now. We have quality players that can fill the void.
"As per usual it will be a tough game, Liverpool will start well and the fans will get behind them. It will be a great atmosphere and hopefully we can come out victorious."
Liverpool make just one change from the side that beat Notts County in the League Cup on Monday night. Kolo Toure is out with a groin injury sustained in that game, with Martin Skrtel coming in to replace him.
The game is live on Newstalk from 1.30
