Laois will move swiftly to replace Eddie Brennan by appointing Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett as the manager of the senior hurlers for a second time.
The Portlaoise club man is set to be ratified by the County Board in the coming days.
It's believed he's the preferred candidate.
Plunkett previously managed Laois between 2012 and 2016.
He made the O'Moore County competitive in the Championship, as they defeated Offaly and ran Galway close on a couple of occasions. They were also promoted to Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League.
Cheddar was recently linked with taking over Birr in Offaly, but the lure of inter-county management appears have held sway.
In recent years, Plunkett has coached Portlaoise and Kilkenny club James Stephens.
