Republic of Ireland defender Shane Duffy has joined Championship high-flyers Brighton and Hove Albion on a four-year deal.

The Derry native, who has joined from Blackburn Rovers and could make his debut against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon. He has joined for an undisclosed fee.

Duffy, who joined Blackburn in 2014, has had a tough spell in recent weeks. He scored two own goals and was sent off in a recent loss to Cardiff City, but did end his Blackburn career with a goal (in the right end) against Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Cup.

"I'm delighted that our perseverance has finally paid off and we've completed the signing of Shane; he's an excellent addition for us", manager Chris Hughton revealed.

"He has a lot of experience for his age, having played in the Premier League, Championship, Europa League and international football for Ireland."

Duffy forced his way into Ireland's team at Euro 2016, starting against Italy and France. He will miss the forthcoming World Cup qualifier against Serbia due to suspension.
