Shay Given could be on the verge of a shock return to international football.
The veteran goalkeeper is set to speak to Giovanni Trapattoni later this week about the prospect of coming out of retirement.
The 36-year-old is Ireland's most capped international but has fallen out of favour with Aston Villa this season and is desperate for a chance to increase his playing time.
The FAI have confirmed that Trapattoni will speak to Given over the phone 'very shortly' and the keeper is now expected to feature in the squad for Ireland's friendly against Poland at the Aviva Stadium on February 6th.
Since Given's retirement, Sunderland's Kieren Westwood has been the No 1 between the posts.
