Stephanie Roche says women's football in the USA is "cut throat".
In an interview with the BBC, the newly-signed Sunderland striker says that being moved on by Houston Dash after just three months taught her a lesson.
"I think it's taught me a lesson that with football, it can be cut-throat in America," the FIFA Puskas Award runner-up said.
To come home and be told I wasn't going to be there wasn't a nice thing to hear but as one door closes, another door opens.
"I had a couple of clubs come in for me when I was finishing up. I was very happy with that because I was down on my luck and I didn't really know what was going to happen next. I was just one of the unfortunate ones: mine was made a little bit more public I suppose but it happens all the time."
