Stoke's Cameron Jerome has been fined £50,000 for breaching a number of the Football Association's betting rules.
The striker has also been severely warned about his future conduct.
Jerome admitted the charges earlier this month, and attended a personal hearing on Tuesday.
However he has a right to appeal the punishment. There is also no suggestion that he gambled on games involving Stoke City, nor was there an accusation of match-fixing.
An FA statement said: "Stoke City's Cameron Jerome has been fined £50,000, subject to any appeal, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.Jerome, who was also severely warned as to his future conduct, admitted a number of breaches of The FA's Betting Rules and requested a personal hearing which took place on Tuesday 13 August 2013."
