Sam Allardyce's Sunderland guaranteed Premier League survival on Wednesday night after a 3-0 win over Everton in the Stadium of Light.

The win ensured another great escape for the team from the north-east of England. It also consigned local rivals Newcastle to the drop along with Norwich.

To put that run into context, Aston Villa will have only spent 233 days in the bottom three, come the end of the season, despite being relegated almost a month ago.

Sunderland were five points from safety, with an inferior goal difference on Christmas Day. The team have been no higher the 17th during the season, and only spent brief periods of August, November, March, April and May outside the relegation zone.

The 3-2 win at home to Chelsea last weekend meant the Sunderland finally left the relegation zone for good after their 36th game of the season.

Who cares how bad a team is during the season, if they hit form at the right time? Sunderland's fans certainly won't mind as they prepare for their tenth Premier League season in a row.
