The Swedish goalkeeping legend Thomas Ravelli was on Newstalk Breakfast this morning, answering questions about Friday night’s World Cup qualifier between Ireland and Sweden, at the Friends Arena in Stockholm.
Ravelli talked to Oisín Langan about Ireland's problem when it coems to figuring out the best way to mark Zlatan Ibrahimovic, if Robbie Keane is making any Swedish defenders nervous, Ravelli's views on Giovanni Trapattoni and the importance for Sweden of having the roof at the Friends Arena closed.
Ravelli was able to offer a knowledgeable account of his experiences of Trapattoni, a knowledge which, perhaps unsurprisingly, didn’t extend to the rest of the Irish squad. Ravelli’s knowledge of Paul Green, the man who may have the duty of keeping a close eye on Ibrahimovic, was tested. It turns out, might not quite encyclopaedic and the Swedish keeper makes no bones about it.
Ravelli also gives Irish fans his top tips for a night out in the Swedish capital.
Ravelli is Sweden’s record caps holder (143, no less) and a veteran of two World Cups and one European Championship.
And here we have Ravelli's finest hour. His penatly save in the shootout at the quarter finals of World Cup 94, against Romania.
