The Galway races get underway this evening, here's what to expect

The first horses go to the posts this evening and will signal the start of one of the biggest racing events in the Irish calendar.

Punters from around the country will flock to Ballybrit in their droves to experience the Galway Races and for those of you who aren't exactly racing aficionados, we have you covered.

Racing gets underway at following times everyday:

Monday 5.15pm

Tuesday5.15pm

Wednesday3.00pm

Thursday 1.50pm

Friday 5.10pm

Saturday2.40pm

Sunday2.15pm

Wednesday and Thursday look set to be the busiest days of the festival, with the latter of the two the festival's Ladies Day.

These two days host two of the festivals feature races, thetote.com Galway Plate and the Guinness Galway Hurdle on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. 

Boston Bob, Rebel Fitz and Art of Logistics are just some of the big names who will compete the Galway Plate on the Wednesday.

Thursday sees Wicklow Brave, Modem and Rawnaq all compete in the Galway Hurdle.

Horses from around the world converge on Ballybrit and trainers such as Willie Mullins and Dermot Weld will be carry a huge threat in their selections.
