Name: Sebastian Jung

Club: Eintracht Frankfurt

Nationality: German

Position: Right-back

Who is he?

A product of Eintracht Frankfurt’s youth academy, Jung made his club debut in March 2009, although he was a regular in the club’s reserve team.

He started to become a regular in the 2010/11 season which unfortunately coincided with Eintracht’s relegation from the Bundesliga. That season aged just 20, he made more appearances than any other Eintracht player.

However the Frankfurt side would not stay in the second tier for long and the 22-year-old was an integral part of the team which secured promotion at the first attempt and then surprisingly battled for Champions League qualification in the first half of this season.

Achievements

Jung’s good form has not gone unnoticed at national level. An U18 and U21 Germany international, he received his first call up for the senior team for the November 2012 friendly against Holland, becoming the first Eintracht call up for over a decade.

However with Philippe Lahm the undisputed first choice at right back at national level, Jung will have to wait for his chance and is likely to be a call up for Germany’s squad for the U21 European Championship in Israel this summer.

Attributes

Jung is not known as a swashbuckling full-back. He has only provided one assists in 2012/13 and has only completed 0.4 dribbles per game, compared to Lahm’s 1.3 and David Alaba (1).

He is not blessed with pace, while his crossing leaves a lot to be desired. He has scored once this season against Hannover 96 and you can watch that goal below.

However he is defensively sound. Jung’s positioning is first class along with his reading of the game., which has led him to being deployed in defensive midfield on a few occasions by manager Armin Veh. In his career so far, he has shown maturity and determination on the right flank.

Potential

Spending a year with Eintracht in the German Second Division did Jung a lot of good as he was kept away from the glare of the top flight.

He seems to be odds on for a future role with the German national team, firstly as a back-up to Philippe Lahm but also as a long-term successor.

He has also been linked with bigger clubs around Europe like Inter Milan and Newcastle, while it is rumoured that he has been identified by Bayern Munich's new manager Pep Guardiola as a serious transfer target.

However, Jung must be careful not to make the jump too quickly as he has thrived in Frankfurt.

Plays a bit like…A far more defensive minded Philippe Lahm
