Limerick will have their appeal heard by the Central Competitions Control Committee today as they aim to overturn the result from Sundays All Ireland minor semi final against Galway.

The panel along with parents and officials met last night to discuss the situation while the squad itself will return to training in preparation for a possible All Ireland final against Waterford on September 8th.

If the appeal is rebuked the Shannonsiders have the avenue of the Central appeal committee and the Disputes resolution Authority.

Galway are insisting they will not agree to a re-play.

The Irish Examiner are reporting that referee Fergal Horgan didn't want to use Hawkeye to verify the point but was instructed to do so by the official in the Hawkeye box.

Thankfully this case is unlike the Meath/Louth debacle of 2010 as Galway were not at fault in anyway for the defeat so the pressure on them to accede to a re-play is not as ferocious as it was on the Royals.

Galway have done nothing wrong so one would have to feel sympathy for a bunch of young guys who thought on Sunday they had earned a spot in the All Ireland final, it’s also very unfair on Waterford who are still somewhat unsure who they'll be playing.

Limerick has already played the Desie twice this year beating them after a re-play in the Munster final.

At all levels of inter county hurling as a bad Junior B (F actually and yes the hurling alphabet goes down that far in Dublin where I now play  )  I can never understand what goes into playing balancing trying to have a life while also essentially being a professional athlete, that means I can never truly get the hurt felt when a bad call cost your team and the anger of hearing people like me say "sure that’s sport " when talking about a situation like this.

That said bad calls are made all the time, some go your way and some don't and this call unlike the Joe Sheridan goal in 2010 wasn't in the last minute and happened so early in the game we don't know how it would have ended so therefore I'm not sure giving a re-play is the right thing to do, essentially it's up to Galway as the rule states the organisation itself can't order it.

If Galway offer the replay it would take a major headache of the GAA’s hands for all sorts of reasons the main one being the precedent set if they are somehow forced to agree to Limericks request.

Yes this time it was a Hawkeye fault but what if there’s a controversial sending off during a game, should we replay every match in that happens to? There’s more riding on this than the result of just one match.
