Tiger Woods has confirmed he'll play the first two events of the FedEx Cup play-offs, following his break after missing the cut at The Open.

The Masters champion will tee it up at The Northern Trust before playing the BMW Championship at Medinah a week later.

It'll be just the second time this season that the golf legend will play tournaments on successive weeks.

Woods won the season-ending Tour Championship last year and is currently 27th on the FedEx standings, he'd need to remain inside the top 30 in order to get a chance to defend his title.

The 43-year-old has played only four tournaments since securing his 15th major at Augusta in April and grimaced with back pain during his two rounds at The Open at Royal Portrush.

The American has undergone four back and knee surgeries during his career, including a major back fusion in 2017, and admitted after Portrush that he needed a break before the play-offs.

"I'm going to take a couple of weeks off and get ready for the play-offs.

"It's been a lot of travel, a lot of time in the air, a lot of moving around and different hotels and everything, I just want to go home.

"Getting myself into position to win the Masters, it took a lot out of me, I want to play here as long as I possibly can and you have to understand if I play a lot, I won't be out here that long."
