Today's top '88 moment is Marco Van Basten's volley in the final against the USSR. 

The USSR had earlier beaten Holland in the group stages with a close 1-0 win, but Holland came out in front this time around with Ruud Gullit's spectacular header in the first half. And yet it was Van Basten's goal in the second half that made the game legendary, when he launched a volley over the head of goalie Rinat Dasayev from just 8 metres away.

Newstalk and the FAI will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Euro 1988 with members of the '88 team on Thursday September 5th in The Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin. 

The event begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost €88 or €880 for a table of 10. All proceeds will go to the John Giles Foundation, whose mission it is to facilitate positive social change by using the power of football to build community cohesion, promote health, and encourage lifelong participation and learning.
