Tottenham are up to third in the Premier League table after they came from behind to beat Sunderland 2 - 1 at the Stadium of Light.

Spurs should have been one up in the first half but Emmanuel Adebayor struck the crossbar from just two yards out with the goal gaping.

And it looked like Tottenham would be made to pay for their profligacy when Republic of Ireland defender John O'Shea gave Sunderland the lead five minutes before half time.

But Spurs were back in it when O'Shea's team-mate Carlos Cuellar scored an own goal three minutes into the second half.

And Aaron Lennon put Spurs ahead a few minutes later from another defensive error - a lead they would hold on to.

But it was not all good news for the winning side as Gareth Bale was booked for diving - the third time that has happened this season.
