Back in the 1980s, footballs were not made of pigs' bladders.

But they weren't the aerodynamic specimens that we have today - which makes a 1986 free-kick by Brazilian Geraldao even more impressive.

We rightly rave about the way in which former Real Madrid and Brazil left-back Roberto Carlos defied gravity with a legendary free-kick for his country in 1997.

But this goal for Cruzeiro is right up there...

Roberto Carlos' effort against France in Le Tournoi was taken from a different angle. But equally, it seemed to tear the laws of physics to shreds...
