Last weekend proved an unusual week for stories involving television shows and graveyards. We reported yesterday on the Breaking Bad funeral in Albuquerque, with some locals feeling that fake grave is inappropriate despite the charitable intentions behind the incident. At the same time, a dispute has arisen in Ohio following the removal of two memorials for the late Kimberly Walker. The memorials in questions were a pair of six-foot tall Spongebob Squarepants monuments.

In a video for local news station WLWT, the family explained that Kimberly, a soldier found dead in a hotel room on Valentine's Day, was a big fan of the cartoon character. Her relatives felt this was the character was therefore the most appropriate memorial for Kimberly. At a cost of $26,000 (over €18,800) altogether, the statues weigh over three metric tonnes each.

Although the Walker family says they received permission before purchasing and installing the huge memorials, the cemetery removed them over the weekend, saying they "did not fit the cemetery guidelines". The Walkers argue they bought the six plots in question, and believe the giant Spongebobs should stay.
