Ted Lasso’s adventures at Tottenham are NBC’s novel way of approaching their promotion of the new Premier League season. The American broadcaster is looking to appeal to the tens of millions of Americans who still haven’t taken to the game of soccer, and have used the story of Ted Lasso – an American coach harbouring stereotypical American ignorance and misconceptions of the game – to make their pitch.
What they’ve come up with is a excellently executed piece of comedy and a refreshingly intelligent, oringinal alternative to the constant hype and bluster of broadcasters we so often get on this side of the Atlantic.
