Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal to bring Benfica's Nemanja Matic back to the club for €25 million.

The Serb was valued at less than €6 million just three years ago when he left Stamford Bridge as a makeweight in the deal that saw defender David Luiz move to Stamford Bridge.

But the quadrupling of his transfer value is an indication of how he has improved in the Portuguese league.

A key part of the Benfica side which took on Chelsea in last year's Europa League final, Matic excels at breaking up play and also distributes the ball effectively. His pass completion rate stands at about 83 per cent in the Champions League group stages this season.

At a shade over 6 foot 4, the 25-year-old is physically strong presence. But he is not a slow, lumbering figure, possessing ample athleticism with some comparisons made with Yaya Toure.

If his move to the Blues is completed, expect him to line up as one of the two holding midfielders, either alongside Ramires or Frank Lampard.

Goals are not a key part of his game (he has scored six league goals in two years), although he did score a FIFA Puskas Award-nominated goal against Porto in 2013 which you can watch below:
