The model is a supersized version of the standard Lego X-Wing model, and was made from well over 5.3 million individual Lego bricks. It was put together by 32 designers over 17,000 man hours. It's unveiling this week was timed to promote a forthcoming Lego Star Wars cartoon series.
The previous ‘biggest Lego model’ is a giant robot located in the Mall of America. The new X-Wing is over 2 million bricks larger than the robot.
There have been nearly 500 billion Lego bricks produced since the company was founded in 1949. Enthusiasts have dedicated huge amounts of time to building massive Lego structures. Last year at Legoland Windsor a group of 'builders' put together the world's tallest Lego tower, finishing up at a height of over 32 metres.
