We had been told about it on Off The Ball, but if we needed any extra evidence that the Spanish media and Real Madrid fans are exceptionally hard on Gareth Bale, all we had to do was watch their win over Espanyol.

The ex-Tottenham winger curled in a wonderful free-kick in the 3-0 win. But despite that, he was booed heavily by Real fans for missing a chance when he could have squaring a pass to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Most footballers - Ronaldo included - might not have passed in that situation, but whatever the case, the Welshman is experiencing what many stars have faced - a tough introduction to life with Real fans.

Either way, here's that free-kick:

In contrast, Francesco Totti is adored to the hilt by Roma fans. He got the Serie A title chasers back into the Rome derby against Lazio with two second half goals, following it up with a selfie celebration in front of the Curva Sur.

The second goal was particularly athletic for a player approaching his 39th birthday:

Unfortunately that 2-2 draw leaves Roma two points behind league leaders Juventus, who beat Rafa Benitez's Napoli last night. Manchester United fans look away because Paul Pogba went and scored another beauty on the volley:
