Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk admits that he did not expect to see the Premier League champions slip up in their title defence at home against Wolves on Sunday.
Adama Traore shot down Manchester City with two goals and the visitors to the Etihad also managed to keep City's lethal strike force quiet in a shock 2-0 victory.
The defeat leaves the champions eight points behind table-toppers Liverpool who beat Leicester City 2-1 at home on Saturday to make it eight wins out of eight this season.
Van Dijk was speaking at the Netherlands training base ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Belarus.
"City at home you know it never happens, well never say never, but it [hasn't] happened so much that they didn't even score one goal at home," van Dijk told Sky Sports.
"Great performance from Wolves, you have to give credit to them but you know what the situation is like, you can't really say much about it.
"They [Man City] will try to bounce back from it and until then we are just going to focus on our international football of course."
Liverpool finished just one point behind City in the title race last season but van Dijk is refusing to get carried away, even though the Merseysiders have already opened an eight point gap.
"We tried that [to win the title] last year but unfortunately Man City were just a little bit better," said van Dijk. "So far we have been getting the points. There is always room for improvement in our game.
"And what I said already before, I think we should just focus on all the games ahead of us and don't look at any gaps or any points difference between us and the others, us and City.
"There are a lot of busy periods coming up as well, obviously December and January and anything can happen still."
Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah was forced off with a twisted ankle in the win against Leicester after shipping a heavy tackle from Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp's team travel to Old Trafford on Sunday, October 20 for their next Premier League game against arch-rivals Manchester United and van Dijk is confident that his team-mate will be fit again in time.
"He'll probably get time to recover as well," van Dijk added. "I'm not concerned that he is not going to be ready for United away."
