Leo Messi scored two goals for Barcelona last night to reach 86 goals for 2012 and break Gerd Muller's previous record for goals scored in a calndar year. Muller achieved the feat with 85 goals in 1972 with West Germany and Bayern Munich.

The Barcelona forward scored twice in the first half as Barcelona continued their record breaking start to the La Liga season with a 2-1 win to take them to 43 points from a possible 45.
