Real Madrid finished their Champions League group campaign with a facile 8-0 win over Malmo last night.

French international Karim Benzema opened the scoring with two goals inside the first 25 minutes. He completed his hat-trick, 15 minutes from time. Mateo Kovacic also scored midway through the second half.

Despite Benzema's three goals, the game will be best remembered for Cristiano Ronaldo's four goal haul in the space of 20 minutes. The Portuguese star opened his account for the night with a free kick from the left hand side, six minutes from half time.  

His second three goals came in the space of 11 second half minutes and started with a tap in from five yards out, after a Danilo shot was deflected into his path.

Two minutes later, Ronaldo completed his hat trick. He received the ball from a Danilo pass and beat two Malmo defenders before shooting past Johan Wiland. 

 Ronaldo wrapped up his scoring for the night, before the hour mark, when he slotted home a pass from Isco.

It was the joint biggest win in the history of the Champions League group stages. The 8-0 win matches Liverpool's result over Turkish side Besiktas in 2007.

Ronaldo's four goals helped him to become the first player to score more than ten goals in the group stages. He finished up scoring 11 goals in six games, with six coming against Malmo and five against Shakhtar Donetsk.
